Ladies Guild support for Turkiye and Syria earthquake disasteras well as for Cool Aid free dental clinic
At the Ladies Guild meeting on Wednesday, February 8th, Lori Angellini spoke to those present about the scope of the work of the Cool Aid Society. She included a note about the work of their dental clinic which offers free dental services to Cool Aid clients and others who would not otherwise have access to dental work. They are currently fundraising to help cover the costs of this service, with a private donor offering to match all donations to the dental services during the month of February. The Guild voted at the meeting to send $500 to the Cool Aid Society for the dental clinic. Members also voted to send $500 to the Canadian Red Cross for the earthquake relief efforts in Turkiye and Syria. The donation to the Red Cross will be matched in kind by the Canadian Government up until Feb 22nd. |

Parish libraryWhy not add some reading to your Lenten practice this year? Janet Denford, our parish librarian reports that the books in the narthex have been supplemented, recatalogued, and organized into themes, and are ready to be browsed and borrowed. In the picture, Noreen Dunn admires Janet's hard work. Every item is now labelled with a unique shelf code: that is, an abbreviation of its theme with the first few letters of the author’s name, and in some cases a number or copy number. The majority of books and multimedia are shelved together in shelf code order outside the parish office. Reference books, which are for use in the church only, are located on the bottom shelf of the new small bookcase in the narthex seating area. Books for younger children are on the small table nearby, and are available for loan as well as for use during worship. A list of the themes, with their abbreviations, is in the binder in the small bookcase, along with copies of the complete catalogue, green loan slips, yellow return slips, and a pink box to put your slips in. A changing display of books that may interest you will occupy the top shelf of the bookcase. Most items can be borrowed for 3 weeks and renewed once. Day-books for daily devotional use, labelled DEV (or SEAS) DB, can be borrowed for the length of the period the book covers, up to a year. There are no fines for late returns, but please be considerate of others who may be waiting for the book you have. To borrow a book or DVD, fill out a green loan slip and put it in the pink box; do the same to renew it. When you return it, fill out a yellow return slip, put it in the box, and leave the item beside the box. This Week’s Top Shelf Marcus Braybrooke. Learn to Pray: a Practical Guide to Faith and Inspiration. Stephen Cherry. Barefoot Disciple: Walking the Way of Passionate Humility. Max Lucado. Romans: God’s Big Picture. Debbie McMillan. Confronted by Jesus: Daily Reflections for Lent. Hilary Price. The Life that Changed My Day. |

Planned Authorised Giving newsA message from our Treasurer The preauthorised donation system run by the Synod Office comes to an end in two weeks' time. The Synod Office has researched alternative options extensively and have recommended that parishes enroll in preauthorized giving services provided by the United Church of Canada, (the UCC). The UCC operates a system similar to that which we use, and besides serving United Church congregations, it currently provides this service to 271 Anglican congregations across Canada representing 7,355 donors. It is the least expensive option for our parish without creating a great deal more work for parish volunteers and/or donors, depending upon the alternative option. Please speak to Bill Van Sickle and Barb Gossman after the service so that they can provide you with the forms necessary for enrollment in the new system. |
