Our annual Strawberry Tea and Craft Fair is coming soon on Saturday, June 21st from 10 am to 3 pm.

For $10, you will enjoy freshly made strawberry shortcake served with coffee and tea in china teacups. You can shop at our always popular bake table as well as at all the local crafters' tables.

Please invite your friends and family to this lovely annual event, and help spread the word by taking some posters from the narthex table.

Here are some ways you can help support this event:

1. Prepare lots of baked goods for the bake table.

2. Assist with the set-up on Friday evening, June 20th from 6 to 9 pm.

3. Help on the day of the tea, Saturday, June 21st.

Intersections Course

Intersections Course

September and October Tuesday nights @ 7 PM

The Diocese has a superb course on our history in BC, looking at the way that we have interacted across cultures and race, beginning with the very first colonists.

Sr. Ingrid has completed the course, and found it interesting, challenging and immensely rewarding. Often, we prefer not to engage with uncomfortable subjects, but there is a lot to be learned about ourselves and the unspoken background of the society in which we live. To introduce you to what is possible with this course, please watch this brief video with Bishop Anna.

This seven-week online series brings people together in intentional conversations to:

  • encounter our collective past
  • locate ourselves as participants in the ongoing story of this place
  • explore how to respond faithfully to the truths we find together

...so we can participate with God in restoring creation and affirming the dignity of all people.

A team of trained moderators will offer will offer each of the seven sessions which are based on the information covered in the CRBC project, using video, song, prayer, self-refection exercises, readings and group discussions.

The Church of the Advent will be engaging in this course during September and October, on Tuesday nights at 7 PM (skipping the third Tuesday of each month).

NEW BOOK CORNER

Caring Enough to Confront: How to Transform Conflict with Compassion and Grace

David Augsburger

This week’s addition to the Top Shelf is a book on conflict resolution in a Christian context from a Mennonite professor of pastoral counselling.

The book discusses five methods of handling conflict, any of which may be useful in a particular situation, but devotes particular attention to “care-fronting,” which is designed to build relationship while handling disagreements honestly. The author writes about anger, change, trust, avoiding recriminations and self-condemnation, and peacemaking; he also describes different streams of spirituality in the context of conflict resolution. Examples are included, and each chapter ends with reflections and questions. A self-test of the reader’s own natural style of conflict resolution is provided in the appendix, as is a short article on the art of receiving criticism.

This modern classic was first published in 1973, and reissued most recently in 2018. It has been catalogued in the Christian Life section at CHLF AUG. Another book by David Augsburger, Caring Enough to Forgive/Caring Enough Not to Forgive, is also in the Christian Life section of the library.

To borrow any book, please fill out a green loan slip from the small bookcase in the narthex, and put it in the pink box labelled “Library.” If you have a book due for return, please fill out a yellow return slip instead, and leave your book beside the box. Thank you.
