Garage Sale

Garage Sale

Saturday, August 3, 9 am to 2 pm

Have you been sorting and preparing to bring items to the sale?  Have you told your friends and neighbours they can also do the same? We are looking for household items in good condition and in working order.  Please note we are not accepting clothing, large furniture, computers, TVs, mattresses, carpets, used travel mugs, and books, music and DVDs.  You can save the last three for the Book Sale in early October.

Please bring your items from Mon, July 29 to Thursday, Aug 1, from 9:30 am to 3 pm, and also on Wednesday evening, July 31 from 6 to 8 pm.  If you need to bring your items earlier, please contact Bill or Linda Van Sickle.

Have you signed up to help during the set-up from July 31 to Aug 2 and/or at the sale on Aug 3rd?  The sign-up sheets are on the entranceway table.  If you won’t be at the church in the next while but would like to sign up and/or you have any questions, please contact Bill or Linda Van Sickle at 778 265 5347, and we’ll be happy to help you.

Together we can make this a great event for our parish and for our community!

Thank you!

Thank you!

A Message from Liz

Sending a very large THANK YOU to all who attended Bob's service on Saturday. Myself and all our family were truly overwhelmed.

We especially thank Nell and the members of the Choir; Kathy for the beautiful flower arrangements in the church; Neil for the Zoom, Mike for his recording talents and support; the sidespeople and readers; the Ladies Guild and all who worked in the kitchen (including set-up and clean-up). Finally we thank Rev. Ingrid for her lovely and caring support during Bob's final months and especially guiding our family through saying our final goodbye to Bob on Saturday.
My family really misses Bob but knowing we have such a supportive family within the church carries us through even the most difficult days.

God Bless, Liz Garland.

Prayer ministry team

Prayer ministry team

Is this a ministry for you?

Following Sunday's overwhelming response to a call for healing prayer, Sr. Ingrid is exploring an idea she's been mulling for some time. We are considering making prayer available on an as-needed basis for people in the chapel immediately after every Sunday 10 AM service. Prayer would be private and confidential.

Do you feel called to pray with people after church? Please contact Sr. Ingrid or Joan Hoffman, so we can discuss a date and time for training.

Parish Office Holiday Closure

Parish Office Holiday Closure

July 16, 17, and 18

The Parish Office will be closed the week of July 15th.

If any non-urgent matters arise during the closure, please feel free to send an email to Caroline, and she will respond when she returns to the office on the 16th.

For time-sensitive situations or pastoral emergencies, please contact the church wardens by either emailing them at wardens@colwoodanglican.ca or calling 250-889-2039.

Prayer line requests may be emailed to either Sr Ingrid or Kathy at kathy50@shaw.ca.

Please note that Sr. Ingrid will be at the Parish Campout until Tuesday, and back in office on Wednesday.

Jill's Book Launch

Jill's Book Launch

Jill Tyler-Dolan from the 8:30am service is now a published author and illustrator. You will note that she is using the pen name Tyler-Dolan.  Jill did this as a tribute to her Grandma, Edna Tyler, a long-time member of the Church of the Advent family, and her Grandpa, John Tyler. Jill is resilient, intelligent and most of all loving.  If ‘perseverance’ was a person that would be our Jilly.

“The Hummingbird's Garden” poetry book has been published worldwide in multiple retail bookstores and on the internet.  As well, it is available in an e-book format on the internet.   Some of the places that have picked up her book/e-book to sell include: Bolen’s, Amazon, Walmart.com, Barnes and Nobles, and Kobo (Chapters). It's exciting to see weekly how many new stores are carrying her book. We are very proud of her, and she can't wait to share the book with you.  The 3 years she spent writing this book was a labour of love.

Jill will be celebrating the launch of her book "The Hummingbird's Garden!" She would love it if you came down to Coles Bookstore at the Westshore Town Centre between 10am and 1pm on Saturday, July 20th. Her book is dedicated to her Grandma Edna and her Uncle John.  Many of you may have known Edna from the 8:30 service and the parish council.

Jill would love to share her poetry with her church family. Bring friends and family to the event if you would like to support a wonderful local author and get a signed copy of the book. She will also be doing reading performances.

Church Colours

Thank you, Amy and Ana, for your wonderful assistance with changing the colours on the altar. It made Jose's job so much easier and your help is greatly appreciated!

Joy, delight, and good news are the themes of this week’s Top Shelf.

Desmond Tutu & Mpho Tutu. Made for Goodness: And Why This Makes All the Difference.
An answer to the question: “Why are you so joyful?”: “Goodness changes everything.”

Nouwen’s meditations on the spiritual life include his reflections about joy.

Mark Hansen & Barbara Nichols with Patti Hansen. Out of the Blue: Delight Comes into Our Lives.
