Intersections Course

Intersections Course

September and October Tuesday nights @ 7 PM

The Diocese has a superb course on our history in BC, looking at the way that we have interacted across cultures and race, beginning with the very first colonists.

Sr. Ingrid has completed the course, and found it interesting, challenging and immensely rewarding. Often, we prefer not to engage with uncomfortable subjects, but there is a lot to be learned about ourselves and the unspoken background of the society in which we live. To introduce you to what is possible with this course, please watch this brief video with Bishop Anna.

This seven-week online series brings people together in intentional conversations to:

  • encounter our collective past
  • locate ourselves as participants in the ongoing story of this place
  • explore how to respond faithfully to the truths we find together

...so we can participate with God in restoring creation and affirming the dignity of all people.

A team of trained moderators will offer will offer each of the seven sessions which are based on the information covered in the CRBC project, using video, song, prayer, self-refection exercises, readings and group discussions.

The Church of the Advent will be engaging in this course during September and October, on Tuesday nights at 7 PM (skipping the third Tuesday of each month).

Could you help out with children's clothing?

Could you help out with children's clothing?

For kids staying with their mothers in the Emergency Shelter

The Victoria Women's Transition House is in urgent need of children's clothing and are asking for assistance in stocking their near-empty shelves. When families arrive at the Emergency Shelter, they often arrive with very few belongings. Having children's clothing on hand makes a big difference in helping kids feel safe and cared for right away. New or gently used donations are welcome.

They're especially looking for :

-Long sleeve shirts (girls 2T-5 , Boys 2T-10/12)
-T shirts (girls 2T-4T, boys 2T - 10/12)
-Sweaters (girls 2T - 3T, boys 2t - 7/8)
-Pants (all genders and sizes except 7/8)
-Shorts, pajamas and socks (all genders /sizes)
-New underwear (all genders sizes)

Thank you for helping kids feel comfortable as their families settle into shelter!

Vigil

Vigil

Sunday, August 31, 7 PM

This International Overdose Awareness Day, we come together as one big family to take action on overdose. Join our musical director, Nell Howard, as she tells her story and that of her son.

The overdose crisis doesn’t just shatter our families, it fractures our communities.  The losses go deeper than one person, one family or one neighborhood. They ripple out into classrooms, workplaces and the spaces we all share. They cross borders between cities, states and nations.

But in a time when people are searching for connection and safety, overdose also reminds us that our lives are deeply intertwined. We often instinctively protect our own – our children, our parents, our siblings. We believe in second chances for our loved ones but struggle to extend that same compassion to others. But what if we saw each other as one big family, bound not just by blood, but by shared experiences, responsibility and commitment to each other?

This International Overdose Awareness Day let’s imagine a new meaning of what family can be. A family driven by hope, love and action. We are one big family – not just because we share in the pain of loss, but because we share in the power to change what comes next.

This August 31, we move beyond awareness. We organize, we show up, and we take action. Because no one should carry this grief alone. Every story shared, every voice raised and every step we take brings us closer to a future free from overdose.

Join our musical director, Nell Howard, as she tells her story and that of her son Caleb.

Broke & Blue

We are thrilled to welcome back Broke and Blue - pianist Kathryn Le Gros and flutist Diane Berry for our next Jazz Vespers service!

This is NOT TO BE MISSED!

Broke and Blue came together when Kathryn and Diane first discovered their mutual love of the music of French jazz pianist, Claude Bolling (1930-2020).  With two suites for flute and jazz piano, as well as a number of other pieces, there is a rich choice available.  Bolling’s fusion of classical and jazz elements in his work is a wonderful vehicle for these two classically trained, versatile musicians. Both are experienced performers, connected to a number of ensembles in and around Victoria, embracing a number of different genres and styles.

In the years since forming Broke and Blue, they have performed at Hermann’s Jazz Club, for jazz vespers in a number of local churches, created videos for Vancouver Symphony’s Day of Music, performed Unsworth Winery, corporate functions, and live-streamed a concert for Augmented Trio Promotions.

Sunday 21st September at 7 PM.

Suggested donation at the door: $20.
