Garage Sale Coming Soon!

Garage Sale Coming Soon!

Saturday, May 2nd

Did you know that we have an amazing BBQ lunch with hamburgers and hot dogs and snacks on sale day?  And did you know that Jose Perena Pratt and her team create a beautiful boutique in the narthex, displaying a wide array of vintage and other lovely things selected from items brought for the sale?  Any help you can provide even for an hour or two during our days of preparation, Apr 25 to May 1, would be appreciated.  All the careful sorting and setting out of donated items provides a great experience for our shoppers on the sale day, May 2nd.

We still need volunteers at most of the tables and stations on sale day.  Please check the sign-up sheets on the entryway table and add your name where you can help out.  A big thanks to everyone who has already signed up. If you’re thinking of helping but would like more information, please contact Linda Van Sickle at 778 265 5347 or lindavs51@gmail.com.  Let’s take this opportunity to come together as a parish and make this a great event for our Westshore community.

BOOKS FOR EASTER

The Top Shelf this week continues to feature books about Jesus. They are:

Marcus Borg and N.T. Wright. The Meaning of Jesus: Two Visions.

This is a fine book by two prominent Jesus scholars who were also friends—not that they agreed with each other. Each topic, from the stories of Jesus’s birth and what he taught, through his death and resurrection, to his second coming, is discussed by both writers, who present their differing viewpoints.

Marcus Borg. Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time: The Historical Jesus & the Heart of Contemporary Faith.

N.T. Wright. Who Was Jesus?

Both Marcus Borg, an American liberal lay scholar, and Tom Wright, a conservative bishop in the Church of England, wrote their own well-regarded books about Jesus, and more than one at that. On the Top Shelf are two of them.

Cynthia Bourgeault. The Wisdom Jesus: Transforming Heart and Mind—A New Perspective on Christ and His Message.

A view of Jesus that draws on insights from the Eastern churches, and includes instructions for wisdom practices such as lectio divina and centering prayer.

Thomas Cahill. Desire of the Everlasting Hills: The World Before and After Jesus.

The life of Jesus in the context of his times.

Remaining on display on the children’s table is Alice Joyce Davidson’s The Story of Easter, illustrated by Victoria Marshall.

To borrow any book, fill out a green slip from the small bookcase in the narthex, and put it in the pink box labelled Library. To return a book, fill out a yellow slip and put it in the box, then leave the book beside or under the box.

Please read and return books borrowed before March 1 on or before April 12, if possible. Thank you.
