Garage Sale Coming Soon!

Garage Sale Coming Soon!

Saturday, May 2nd , 9 AM - 2 PM

Have you been sorting and preparing to bring items to the sale?  Have you told your friends and neighbours they can do the same? We are looking for household items in good condition and in working order.  Please note we are not accepting clothing, large furniture, computers, TVs, mattresses, carpets, used travel mugs, and books, music and DVDs.  You can save the last three for the Book Sale in early October.

Please bring your items starting Saturday, April 25, 9am to 3 pm, and continuing from Monday April 27 to Friday, May 1, 9am to 3pm, and also on Wednesday evening, April 30, from 6 to 8 pm.

Thanks to everyone who has signed up so far to help out during the days of preparation and on the sale day, May 2nd. We still need volunteers, especially on the day of the sale. The sign-up sheets are on the entranceway table.  If you won’t be at the church in the next while but would like to sign up and/or you have any questions about what is involved, please contact Linda Van Sickle at 778 265 5347 or lindavs51@gmail.com and she’ll be happy to help you.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Prayer Shawl Ministry

April 23rd at 10 AM

A prayer shawl is a handmade shawl, usually knitted or crocheted, of soft yarn to give someone a tangible example of God’s love and care. A prayer shawl is infused with prayer by the crafter. Blessings are given in every loving stitch of the project. It is then gifted to a recipient who can wrap up in it and feel God’s arms around them.

Are you interested? The next Prayer Shawl meeting is Thursday, April 23rd at 10 a.m. in the St. John's room. If you have any questions and want to join the team, please feel free to contact Shirley at 604-816-2964.

BOOKS FOR EARTH DAY

For the two weeks surrounding Earth Day on 22 April, the Top Shelf has on display the following books:

Richard Wagamese. One Drum: Stories and Ceremonies for a Planet.
An exploration of the concepts of Humility, Courage, and Respect (three of the Seven Sacred Laws or Teachings) through story and reflection, accompanied by simple rites to align us with the energy and unity of Creation.

John Philip Newell. A New Harmony: The Spirit, The Earth, and The Human Soul.
A way of seeing the oneness of reality that is both new and ancient, and an opportunity to transform ourselves and our relationships.

Wilson Dickinson. The Green Good News: Christ's Path to Sustainable and Joyful Life.
The ecological crisis will force us to change our lives and embrace a life of justice, peace, and community. Rated 4.6 on Goodreads and 4.8 on Amazon.ca.

Christopher Bamford & William Parker Marsh. Celtic Christianity: Ecology and Holiness.
An anthology of stories about the Celtic saints with verses, prayers and sayings that display Celtic Christianity’s embrace of nature, a “holy intimacy of human, natural and divine.”

Karen Armstrong. Sacred Nature: Restoring Our Ancient Bond with the Natural World.
This generation’s foremost writer on comparative religion makes a case for renewing our perception of Nature as sacred, as a prerequisite for giving environmental damage the serious attention and action it needs. A bestseller and New Yorker Book of the Year.

On display on the children’s table this week is Be Blest: A Celebration of Seasons, by Mary Beth Owens, a beautifully-illustrated book influenced by St Francis' “Canticle of the Sun.”

To borrow any book, fill out a green slip from the small bookcase in the narthex, and put it in the pink box labelled Library. To return a book, fill out a yellow slip and put it in the box, then leave the book beside or under the box. The loan period is six weeks, but if you need the book a few days longer to finish it, that’s okay.
