Confirmation 2023. Church Camp 2023. Sunday School Begins

Church of the Advent
Newsletter for August 25, 2022
Confirmation 2023

Confirmation 2023

Would you or your family members like to be prepared for Confirmation next year?

Persons who have been baptized as infants or young children have the opportunity to confirm the promises their sponsors made for them. Often this happens in the early teenage years, but confirmation can take place at any age–adult confirmations often take place today.

During Lent next year, confirmation classes will be held, which will provide the opportunity for participants to learn more about the basic beliefs of the Christian faith as well as examining how one’s faith is expressed in daily life. The confirmation service will take place at the Cathedral in the Easter season. That date will be made available once it is known.

The classes will be relaxed and informal, providing participants an opportunity to ask any questions they may have about the Christian faith and the Anglican style of worship. Are you not confirmed? Would you like to take this next step in affirming your faith?  Please contact Rev Ingrid at iandersen@bc.anglican.ca.
Church Camp 2023

Church Camp 2023

Our annual church camp had been interrupted due to the pandemic, but we would like to get a sense of who would be interested in going next year (possibly in June). If participating in camp next year is something you would like to consider, please notify the parish office by Thursday next week. We will decide whether to proceed with those plans based on the level of interest.

New Sermon Series

An exciting and challenging four-part sermon series began last Sunday, based on the much-loved book "Run with the Horses", by Eugene Peterson. What does it mean to live a rich life of faith, to grow in deep and authentic spirituality? We learn by examining the life and teachings of the prophet Jeremiah.

Join us in person on Sunday or through the livestream!

Vancouver Island Anthropocene Pilgrimage

Wednesday, August 31, 2022

About this event

Join us on a four-day pilgrimage of prayer and appreciation for our planet, that begins in the Cowichan Valley and ends in Metchosin.

Key elements: less than 20 kilometers walking on August 31, September 1, 2 and 3.. Pilgrim support team available by mobile phone. Camping sites with water and washrooms available each night, and a group breakfast and supper. Or, arrange your own accommodation and/or meals. Our truck 'mule' will carry heavy items for each pilgrim, so they carry only a light day pack while walking. Multi-day parking at our destination, St. Mary's church in Metchosin, and car pooling to the starting point near Duncan, or contact organizer for other arrangements.

Price is by donation -- suggested donation: $15 for each night of camping, $5 for breakfast and $10 for supper, and $5 per day for the 'mule' service carrying your gear. Pilgrims joining for a single day free.

In general, we will walk at our own pace in small groups or solitary, but start together at 9:00. People are welcome to be a pilgrim for a day.

Space is limited for the 4 day pilgrimage and camping, but many more can walk the day of their choice.

More information is available from Matt Humphrey at wildchurchvictoria@gmail.com or the Rev. Wally Eamer at anthropocenepilgrim@gmail.com.

Please note that all are welcome to a prayer service on Saturday, September 3rd at 8:30 am in the Church of the Advent Chapel.
