Jazz Vespers

Jazz Vespers

Put it in your calendars - Sun 28 May @ 7 PM

Broke and Blue came together when pianist Kathryn Le Gros and flutist Diane Berry first discovered their mutual love of the music of French jazz pianist, Claude Bolling (1930-2020). With two suites for flute and jazz piano, the California Suite as well as a number of other pieces, there is a rich choice of wonderful music available to them. Bolling’s fusion of classical and jazz elements in his work is a wonderful vehicle for these two classically trained, versatile musicians. Both are experienced performers, connected to a number of ensembles in and around Victoria, embracing a number of different genres and styles. In the years since forming Broke and Blue, they have become regular performers on Victoria’s Jazz Vespers circuit.

Taizé service next week Saturday 3rd June @ 5 PM

Taizé service next week Saturday 3rd June @ 5 PM

Join us for a time of peace and prayer

A Taizé worship service involves sung and chanted prayers, meditation, a period of silence, liturgical readings, and icons. There is no preaching. The style of prayer practiced at Taizé has attracted many worshipers from around the globe and from many different denominations. We gather in the early evening in the sanctuary for a simple service of chanting, Bible readings and prayer.  The worship space is darkened, candles illuminate the chapel, and participants gather around the altar. Join us for this special time of worship.

Taizé services are held February through December on the first Saturday of each month, at 5 PM

Messy Church is back at Church of the Advent!

Saturday June 10th 10 am - 12:30 pm

Spring is here, with new life! Plants have new leaves, and there is so much to celebrate. Come and join us at Messy Church, where we will celebrate Spring, plants and Life,  with crafts, creativity, music, and fun. The morning ends with a light lunch.

What is Messy Church? It's for ALL ages and abilities. Messy Church is a fun form of church for children and adults that involves creativity, celebration and hospitality. The time together includes a welcome, a long creative time to explore the biblical theme through getting messy; a short celebration time involving story, prayer, song, games and similar; and a sit-down meal together at tables. All elements are for, and should include, people of all ages, adults and children.

Artistic Collaboration Pathway Toward Reconciliation

Artistic Collaboration Pathway Toward Reconciliation

Tuesday 6 June 7:00 PM Congregation Emanu-El 1461 Blanshard Street

First peak at the art and an opportunity to bid on first editions and purchase special Remarque prints that were embellished by Virgil.    Rabbi Harry and artist Virgil Sampson of the Tsartlip Nation have worked together on creating a powerful art print that combines cultural and aesthetic iconography to produce “Magen,” which in Hebrew means, “Protection.”  The piece combines the Hamsa, a symbol that is shared by many peoples of the Middle East that serves as a talisman or amulet against the evil eye (bad mojo that comes to us when we invoke the envy of others), and an Orca, which is a Coast Salish symbol of protection.
