Garage Updates

Garage Updates

Saturday, May 2nd , 9 AM - 2 PM

Drop-off of donated items starts this Saturday, April 25, 9 am to 3 pm, and continues Monday, April 27 to Friday, May 1, from 9 am to 3 pm, and on Wednesday, May 29, from 6 to 8 pm.  The drop off on Saturday, April 25, is mainly for the general public.  So if you can hold your donations until Monday or later, that would save moving items twice.  Please no computers, clothing, large furniture, mattresses, carpets, baby cribs and car seats, and no books, movies or music (save these for the Book Sale in early October).

Thanks to everyone who has signed up to work during the week to help sort and set out items.  If you haven’t signed up but have an hour or two to spare, you’re welcome to drop by any day from Monday to Friday and help out.  It’s a time of good fun and fellowship as well as preparation for the big sale day.

Thanks to everyone who has agreed to help at the Sale on Saturday.  Watch for an email next week to confirm when you have signed up to work and to give you some basic information.  If you haven’t signed up yet but are able to help that day, the sign-up sheets are out on the entranceway table.  Or you can call Linda Van Sickle at 778 254 5347 and she’ll be happy to assign you a job.

Be sure to invite your friends and neighbours to the sale and to share the event ads that Shaena is posting on our Facebook page.  Don’t forget the amazing BBQ lunch – hamburgers, hot dogs, snacks and some of Lydia’s famous pies, sold by the slice!

Finally, good unsold items will be going to Habitat for Humanity, Anney’s Closet, Women in Need and Salvation Army.  We will need volunteers in the weeks after the sale to take some boxes of items, especially those for the Salvation Army.

Thanks for all your donations of items, time and labour.  Working together, this will be a great event for our parish and for our Westshore community.

BOOKS FOR EARTH DAY

Until April 28, the Earth Day selections remain on the Top Shelf and the children’s table (unless borrowed). They are:

Richard Wagamese. One Drum: Stories and Ceremonies for a Planet.

John Philip Newell. A New Harmony: The Spirit, The Earth, and The Human Soul.

T. Wilson Dickinson. The Green Good News: Christ's Path to Sustainable and Joyful Life.

Christopher Bamford & William Parker Marsh. Celtic Christianity: Ecology and Holiness.

Karen Armstrong. Sacred Nature: Restoring Our Ancient Bond with the Natural World.

Mary Beth Owens. Be Blest: A Celebration of Seasons.

GARAGE SALE ARRANGEMENTS

In preparation for the Garage Sale on 2 May, the small bookcase in the narthex, which is the usual location for the Top Shelf display, loan/return materials, and the Inspiration section (novels and poetry), will be emptied of its usual contents on 28 April.

The bookcase will return to normal on 5 May, and there will be a new display of books suitable for the season. Until then, the Inspiration section will have a temporary home in the lower half of the large book case in the St John room. The black catalogue binder, the loan and return slips, and the library slip deposit box will be on the main library shelves outside the parish office. Children’s books will remain in their table in the narthex seating area but are likely to be hidden from view.

There will be no Top Shelf or children’s display between 28 April and 5 May, but there are lots of good books to browse on the main shelves and in the St John Room.

To borrow any book, fill out a green slip from the small bookcase in the narthex, and put it in the pink box labelled Library. To return a book, fill out a yellow slip and put it in the box, then leave the book beside or under the box.
