Taizé service next Saturday 3rd February @ 5 PM

Taizé service next Saturday 3rd February @ 5 PM

Join us for a time of peace and prayer

We invite you to join us at 5 PM on the first Saturday of each month in the Chapel at the Church of the Advent for a service of deep prayer and worship, sacred darkness, and the singing of chants in candlelight.

A Taizé worship service involves sung and chanted prayers, meditation, a period of silence, liturgical readings, and icons. There is no preaching. The style of prayer practiced at Taizé has attracted many worshipers from around the globe and from many different denominations. We gather in the early evening in the chapel for a simple service of chanting, Bible readings and prayer.

Join us for this special time of worship.

Taizé services are held February through December on the first Saturday of each month, at 5 PM.

Parish Roll update starts next week!

Parish Roll update starts next week!

Look out for the form in next week's newsletter

The Parish Office sometimes gets returned mail when parishioners move - or we try to email or call, and we can't get hold of you. We also need an emergency contact person and their number, in case something happens and we need to let people know.

Next week, we'll be asking you to fill in an online form so we can check that the details we have for you are correct. A reminder: this information is used for pastoral reasons only, and is NEVER shared with an outside party.

If you'd prefer to do this in person with a hard-copy list, we'll be doing that in the near future.

We have a home for your name tag!

We have a home for your name tag!

As always, Sr. Ingrid encourages you to wear your name tags at church, so that people can call you by name. We are growing so quickly that having a name tag helps all of the newer members of our congregation.

A new board has been set up in the Narthex for you to leave your name tags. Please place them in alphabetical order by last name. Need a name tag? Ask Mike Armstrong to order you one.

Street Hope Victoria

Street Hope Victoria

Thank you!

Dear Street Hope Victoria Friends,

Happy New Year!

Thank you so much for your support over the past year!

Your continued generosity in time, talents, resources, prayer and financial support enables us to share the generosity and love of God with people in our community who are living their lives on and around Pandora Avenue. We have the privileged of continuing to go up and down a block of Pandora every Tuesday evening with hot soup, sandwiches, goodies, drinks and cold weather items. Chatting to people as we go, engaging in a mutual sharing of our lives, and sharing with people that we do what we do because we believe in a God who loves them and sees them as precious.

A huge thank you for supporting our Christmas Appeal. This year we gave out an incredible 270 Christmas bags over the two weeks before Christmas! It was absolutely wonderful to be able to give Christmas presents to so many people and to share some of the joy of Jesus being born for us brings.

I hope that some of these photos that people kindly let us take, remind you once again of the deep joy that Jesus brings. Emmanuel, he is with us, and walks with us, even in the most difficult of circumstances. Thank you for showing this to people in our community who are vulnerable and unhoused.

The lady below received a pair of tights in her Christmas bag - not a common item to find in the bags! She was so over-joyed as these were an essential item for her and she was in need of a fresh pair. It was amazing to see how God was directing the Christmas presents that night, and a wonderful reminder that he cares about our needs and the details of our lives.

During November we got to spread some early Christmas cheer with thanks to the churches of Two Saints Ministries. They put together 60 bags (seen below), with a hand written message on each, filled with socks and snacks. It was such pleasure for our team to be able to give out these gifts to our Street Hope friends.

We've had some exciting developments over the past year. During 2023 we added two more teams of volunteers to SHV. We have a team of ladies from Lighthouse Church making the soup once a month and a team of volunteers making sandwiches every Tuesday afternoon. It was brilliant to come back from visiting family in the UK to so many emails responding to the call for sandwich makers and so wonderful to get to meet and know more friends of SHV!

Thank you again for sharing the generosity and love of God with others and for supporting SHV as we seek to share the hope of Jesus with people living their lives on and around Pandora.

God bless,

Deborah
