Compassion in Action - meeting the needs of unhoused people in Langford
The Salvation Army Connection Point Church & Resource Centre in Langford is currently seeking donations for their Dignity Project.
They are specifically in need of men's underwear, toothpaste, toothbrushes, men's and women's pants and spring jackets.
One of the struggles of being unhoused is having nowhere safe to shower, and not having clean clothes. Connection Point in Langford provides free showers and laundry for the unhoused in the West Shore. They are running low on some important items and are seeking assistance from the community to help continue their mission to restore dignity to those who need it.
- Thank you from the Compassion in Action Ministry Team

From the Parish LibraryNEW BOOK CORNER My Life with the Saints James Martin S.J. In this book, which Publisher’s Weekly called “an outstanding and often hilarious memoir” while naming it one of their best books of the year, the well-known Jesuit author and commentator James Martin describes how he got to know the saints of the Catholic Church. It is both a series of mini-biographies of these remarkable individuals and a description of Father James’s own life from his childhood through his novitiate in the Society of Jesus and beyond. A conscious relationship with the saints is uncommon in Anglicanism, but not unknown, and it is not limited only to those people with St. in front of their name. All baptized Christians are part of the communion of saints, which encompasses the entire Church in space and time. One Christian may therefore take another as a model in their Christian life, or ask any Christian (living or dead) to pray with them or for them, provided they remember that Jesus is the ultimate pattern and that it is to God that they are praying. The closing chapter is especially helpful in describing how every Christian is called to sainthood, but how each is “holy in a different way.” God calls each person to their own unique path and to live in harmony with others who are called to a different role. My Life with the Saints was first published in 2006. It is currently displayed on the Top Shelf, and its regular location is in the Biography section of the library, shelf code BIOG MAR.
To borrow this or any other book, please fill out a green loan slip from the small bookcase in the narthex, and put it in the pink box. The loan period is 6 weeks. If you have one due for return, please fill out a yellow return slip instead, and leave your book beside the box. |
