Grace and Peace to You and Yours,

First, let us pray:

“May I Pray This Day”

Good who is Spirit and Christ,

May I pray this day into being

May I pray myself into it.

May I pray myself through it.

May I pray it into being better.

May I pray myself into being better.

May I pray myself into connection with you.

May I pray myself into connection with others.

May I pray myself into loving all I encounter.

May I pray at the heart of my being.

May I pray at the core of my discipleship.

May I pray.

That it may be so. Amen

We are now in week 18 of our time of being the “Church Without Walls”.    Time is slipping away very quickly.  It is flowing through my fingers like sand and I cannot seem to stop or slow it down.  In two week’s movers will be moving everything out of my home in preparation of our move to Kingston.

Many of you have asked if I will be working in Kingston.  I have been in contact with Michael Oulton (Bishop of the Diocese of Ontario) and he has received my resume.  We are continuing a conversation about how I may utilized within the diocese.  So, as I go, I do so praying for God to place me where God might need me.  I need to work – I am a better person when I am working.  I was never created to be a “domestic goddess”!  So, if you are so inclined, please pray for me.  Pray for guidance and grace as I meet whatever challenges are ahead.

As you may be aware, Rev. Dr. Paul Schumacher will continue on at Church of the Advent in an Interim capacity.  It is good to know that there will be some consistency in priestly ministry at the Advent.  I wish Paul all of God’s grace and joy as he ventures into this new world of interim ministry.

And that is it for me this week.  Remember to be very diligent and aware of your surroundings.  Continue to shelter-at-home as much as possible while at the same time enjoying this wonderful summer season. And in the words of Dr. Bonnie Henry, “be kind, be calm, be safe.”

God’s Blessing and Grace to you all;

Rev’d Sandra Hounsell-Drover

Evening Prayer

Evening Prayer

It is a valuable practice at night to spend a little while revisiting sanctuaries of your lived day. Each day is a secret story woven around the radiant heart of wonder. We let our days fall away like empty shells and miss all the treasures.

-Eternal Echoes, John O’Donohue

Evening prayer is a time to re-enter peacefulness after the day’s activities. We look back over the day to see how we were in relationship with the Holy One. We entrust ourselves to this Holy One as we prepare for sleep. Recall the nearness of the Holy One. Envision yourself in the divine arms, held with care and with serenity. Pause for a few minutes of inner stillness and contentment. Continue with the following chant, or one of your own, or a favorite song,

Day Is Done

Day is done, night has come,

I enter into peacefulness.

Now to sleep, now to sleep,

Wrapped within the arms of God.

Review of the Day

Gently look back over the day that you have just lived. Recall moments and situations which led you to gratitude, joy, hope, peace. Thank the Holy One for these moments. Look again over the day you have just lived. Recall moments and situations which were difficult, stressful, disconcerting. Note any response of yours that you wished you could have changed. Bring your desire for change to the Holy One. Express your sorrow or concern. Once more place yourself in the loving care of the Holy One. Be at peace.

Prayer for Peace and Protection Through the Night

Pray or chant “Angels before me.” *

Angels Before Me

Angels before me, guide and direct me.

Angels behind me, guard and protect me.

Angels above me, keep watching over me.

Angels beside me, care for and comfort me.

Closing Prayer

Guardian of the Night, day is drawing to a close. I turn to you with all that my day has held and I entrust it into your care. All my joys and happiness, all my burdens and troubles, all that I am and all that I have, I now place into your hands. I trust that you will hold it for me ‘til the morning light. May I enter into a restful sleep and rise renewed energy in the new day. Thank you for being an abiding presence, a resting place, and a source of peace.
